Hi Folks, Well, what do you think of the new format? Head on over to the website (the inthespirit contact page) and let us know. Now to the real reason I'm writing. As of Wednesday (March 3) we had more people click through on the announcements and advertisements YOU have placed with us in 2010 than in all of 2009. Yep. Less than 3 full months, and we've had more traffic and clicks through the newsletter than all of last year. Thank You! |
The Quickest Way To Your Customers Wallet: Articles |
by Jenny Dickason |
One of the most effective ways of promoting your business, your website and your product can be achieved for free. As in Zip, Zero, Nada. What is this magical technique? Writing articles. One of the easiest ways to promote your website in order to generate traffic and increase your earnings. How does this work? Write articles relating to your website and submit them to "free content" submission sites (like InTheSpirit Marketing – ok, so it's a shameless plug – that's the point). Easy to do, takes little time and can increase your website traffic, sales and of course, your income. How can article writing boost traffic and income? The article on the free content site contains a link to your own website. Readers, after reading your articles, may choose to click on the link and pay you an unexpected visit. Having them on the free content sites is also making these articles available to other webmasters who may wish to publish that article on their site. If they do, your article will include a link back to your site. And anyone who reads the article on that site can still click on the link to visit your site. As the list of your published articles grow larger, and more and more of them are appearing on different websites, the total number of links to your site increases also. Major search engines are placing a lot of significance on incoming links to websites so they can determine the importance of a certain site. The more incoming links the website has, the more importance search engines attaches to it. This will then increase your website's placement in the search results. If you site is into promoting a product or service, the links that your articles have achieved will mean more potential customers for you. Even if visitors only browse through, you never know if they might be in need of what you are offering in the future. There are also those who already have specific things they need on their mind but cannot decide yet between the many choices online. Chances are, they may stumble upon one of your articles, gets interested by the contents you wrote, go to your site and became enticed by your promotions. See how easy that is? Search engines do not just index the websites, they also index published articles. They also index any article that is written about your own website's topic. So once someone searches for that same topic, the list of results will have your site or may even show the articles that you have written. And to think, no effort on your part was used to bring them to your site. Just your published articles and the search engines. Getting their site known is easier if they have articles increasing their links and traffic and making it accessible for visitors searching the internet. Since many people are now taking their buying needs online, having your site on the search engines through your articles is one way of letting them know about you and your business. The good thing with articles is that you can write about things that people would want to know about. This can be achieved in the lightest mood but professional manner, with a little not–so–obvious sales pitch added. If you think about it, only a few minutes of your time is spent on writing one article and submitting it to a free content site. In the shortest span of time also, those are distributed to more sites than you can think of. Even before you know what is happening, you are getting more visitors than you previously had. If you think you are wasting your time writing these articles, fast forward to the time when you will see them printed and widespread on the internet. Not to mention the sudden attention and interest that people are giving your website and your products or services. When Looking for Work: Unique Ideas Part 1 |
by John Strasser |
How long have you been searching for the perfect job or career? Whether you are currently unemployed or if you would just like to find a new job, one that pays better or one that you actually enjoy doing each and everyday, you may be wondering how you can go about finding new opportunities. When it comes to finding job listings, which outline open positions, you will find that you have a number of different options. Some of those options are quite obvious, like using online career hunting or job hunting websites or the employment section of a newspaper; however, there are other options that are fairly unique, but effective. One unique way that you can go about finding information on available jobs is by speaking to those that you know. I know you're saying "Duh!" but did you do it? I know eight people out of work. Only one of them asked me to help. He's the only one who now has a job...Coincidence? I think not! Word of mouth is a great way to find jobs that you may be qualified for; jobs that you may want to apply for. What is amazing about this approach is those that you know, whether they are your friends, family members, or neighbors, may not even be looking for a job themselves. They may have just come across a now hiring sign or happen to see an advertisement in their newspaper's employment section. It may seem weird when you think about it, but those who aren't actually looking for jobs are usually the best sources of information when it comes to finding a job. Another unique way that you can go about finding a job is by working with a buddy or a partner. If you know of anyone, like a family member or friend, who is also in need of a job, you and that person may want to think about teaming up. For instance, you could search for job listings online and your partner could search for job listings in local newspapers. This approach is nice because it allows you to save time, when searching for job listings. Yes, you may end up receiving a little bit of competition from your job hunting buddy, but the amount of time that you are able to save will likely be well worth it in the end. Also, depending on where you live, you may be able to find hundreds of available job listings; therefore, the chances of both you and your job hunting buddy finding a job are actually quite high. Unleash Your Creative Thinking |
People seem to have the misconception that only a select few are able to unleash a steady flow of creative genius. That is not true at all. The fact is, creativity is very much like a muscle that needs to be exercised in order to consistently get great results. And like a muscle, if you don't practice harnessing creative thinking, this skill will very much atrophy into inexistence. But keep working and this skill will soon come to you in a snap. So how do you unleash your creative thinking? Well, the first thing is to become a human leech. No, we're not talking about sucking the blood out of every living thing you can find, we're saying that you should take in as much knowledge and learning you can. Read everything available – good and bad, and keep your mind open to the infinite possibilities of the universe. You feed your physical body don't you? Well, what about your mind? You have to give your creative juices something to marinate. As a side benefit, the more you know, the more you'll want to know, and the more your faculty of wonder will be exercised. Prepare to be amazed at little facts that add a bit of color into your life. Focus on a creative activity everyday. Yes, it's an effort. Even doodling is a creative activity. Don't let anything hinder you. Mindlessness may be a creative activity, but for people who are just starting out to unleash a little bit of creative thinking in their lives, it is helpful and encouraging to have concrete evidence, that, "hey, what I'm doing is getting somewhere." So why don't you try it. Practice drawing for a couple of minutes each day. Your cell phone probably has a camera in it...so start snapping photos like crazy. Then make up crazy captions to go with them. Keep a journal and make a point to write in it religiously. Another cool idea is to write by describing something with your five senses. Write about what something looks like, smells like, etc. Try to avoid vague adjectives like "marvelous," "amazing," and "delicious." Before you know it, you'll have built yourself a tiny portfolio, and you'll be amazed at the growth you've undertaken after amassing all those works of art. Who knows, you might actually take to liking those things you do everyday. Pretty soon those things will become a part of you and you'll be addicted to these creative exercises. Think out of the box – or don't. Sometimes, constraints are actually a good thing. Limitations discipline you to work within your means. It enables you to be more resourceful. Creative freedom is great, but limitations enforce discipline. Try something new everyday and let your experiences broaden your perspective. Explore a new district in your neighborhood. Spend an afternoon in a museum to which you've never been before. Chat up someone on the bus. Open up to the people around you. As you thrust yourself out of your comfort zone more and more each day, your sense of adventure grows and so does your zest for life. Think about it. When was the last time you did something for the first time? If it's been a while, I tell you, you've been missing out on a whole lot of experiences that could've added to your growth, emotionally, mentally, physically, or spiritually. Why don't you try bungee jumping today? OK, maybe not. Not only will you learn, but you will also have plenty of stories to share, enabling you to practice your storytelling skills and making you the life of the party. Embrace insanity. As John Russell once said, "Sanity calms, but madness is more interesting." Exactly! Every creative thought was once deemed insanity by other "normal" people at one time or another. Luckily, that didn't stop the creative geniuses from standing by them. The thing is, sanity or being normal confines people to think... well, normally. Creativity is essentially breaking through barriers. Yes, this includes the bizarre and the downright strange. Hopefully, this article has inspired you to start thinking beyond your "limits." If instead of going to work every day, you "go to play" every day, you'll soon be living a life full of interesting adventures. Unleashing your creative thinking will bring about a new zest for living life. |

The Health Benefits Of Massage Therapy |
In an attempt to understand how and why massage therapy is as effective as it seems to be, scientists and medical researchers from around the world have been studying it for decades. Some characteristics of massage therapy have been conclusively resolved with apparent consensus among the learned scholars, while other characteristics remain as inexplicably mysterious as ever. For instance, they all agree that when a certain amount of pressure is applied to a soft tissue such as a muscle, some changes occur within the affected muscles. They also all tend to agree that massage therapy promotes relaxation and reduces the stress, which often leads to deterioration or worsening of certain physiological conditions. Those characteristics of massage therapy, which have not yet been explained by conventional science, gave rise to a number of theories and postulates. You will note that they are all prefaced with the word "might" to indicate uncertainty as they described possible health benefits of massage therapy: * Might provide stimulation that may help block pain signals transmitted to the brain and this is called the "gate control theory" of decreasing or alleviating pain. * Might promote better health by stimulating the lymphatic system to increase the flow of lymph, which is the secretion that carries disease–fighting cells through the body. * Might re–route the client's nervous system away from the sympathetic to the parasympathetic. In doing so, the fight–or–flight reaction of the sympathetic nervous system with its increased heart and breathing rates along with tightened muscles of distress are shunned in favor of the rest–and–digest reaction of the parasympathetic nervous system with its lowered heart rate, slowed breathing and relaxed muscles. * Might be instrumental in effecting beneficial changes in the body by preventing fibrosis through the process of breaking up scar–like tissue * Might arouse the body to discharge chemicals such as serotonin or endorphins which area known to give people the feelings of wellbeing. * Might improve sleep patterns which is essential to pain control and healing processes. * Might contribute to the overall mental and physiological health by the intimate interaction between the client and the therapist. The following are specific cases and their reported benefits whether they are understood or merely observed with bewilderment: * Students at a New Jersey Medical School who were given massage therapy before an exam displayed less anxiety, lower respiratory rates, a substantial increase in white blood cells and an enhanced immune system. * Cancer patients at the James Cancer Hospital and Research Institute in Columbus, Ohio experienced less pain and decreased anxiety after receiving massage therapies than those who did not get such treatments. * Studies at the University of South Carolina show that women who recently lost a child were less depressed after massage therapy. * The National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that massage therapy improved weight gain in infants who were premature or those who were exposed to HIV. They also determined that massage therapy expedites recovery in patients who had abdominal surgery. * Researchers at the University of the Miami School of Medicine's Touch Research Institute discovered that massage therapy decreases high blood pressure, relieves migraine headaches, and generally increases alertness and performance in the workforce. * Many additional studies confirm that massage therapy reduces heart rates, lowers blood pressure; increases blood circulation and lymph flow; relaxes stiffened and tense muscles while stimulating weak and inactive muscles to compensate for lack of movement due to an illness or an injury; speeds up the healing process after surgeries, disease and injuries; improves the range of vision; increases endorphins; reduces anxiety, tension, depression, pain and itching in burn patients; and Autistic children exhibit calmer and more predictable behavior. So, is massage therapy beneficial? Yes! Massage therapy is beneficial on, oh, so many levels. The mechanics of the process may not be clear just yet, but the outcomes are undeniable by anyone's standards. |

Using a Website to Market Your Business |
by John Strasser |
As you may have noticed, there are many different ways to advertise your business on the Internet. For instance, you can place banner ads, orchestrate an email marketing campaign and (tactfully) mention your business on industry related forums and message boards. And these are just a few of the popular options for using internet marketing to grow your business. Another (very popular) internet marketing strategy involves creating and advertising a website to promote your business. You can use your website in a number of ways. Some of these ways include providing more information about your business and the products or services you offer, letting potential customers know how to reach you and even selling your products and services via the website. This article will highlight the advantages of using a website to market your business and will outline some of the ways the website can be useful. The first (and often most overlooked) advantage of using a website is that you have the ability to actually create a bond with your potential customers. Never, never, NEVER (did I say never?) overlook the opportunity this gives you. All things being equal, people buy things from people they trust and like. All things being unequal, people buy things from people they trust and like. Every aspect of sales, every aspect of marketing, involves YOU (the business owner) building a relationship with your customers and potential customers. So let your personality shine through your website. After all, don't you want to do business with people YOU like? If you are using a website to market your business on the Internet you can place descriptions and photos of the products or services your business offers on your site. This is important because many consumers use the Internet to research products and services. Essentially, they are "kicking the tires" in cyberspace. This gives your business an advantage over the competition (with no online presence) because, when your potential customers can see (and read about) what you do, those products become "real" to them. Another advantage to marketing your business with a website is you can use the website to also sell your products directly. Again this can give you an edge over the direct competition. Consumers who use the Internet to research products and services are often very anxious to make their purchases and they would be more inclined to select a retailer or service providers who offer the opportunity to purchase products or services online over a retailer or service provider who only allows for purchase in a store or via phone. Still another advantage to using a website to market your business is the ability to reach a large, worldwide audience. Depending upon what you do, this can be a MAJOR advantage. Do you have something you can sell to people across the country? Could you *develop* a product or service you could sell across the country? I know in my case, I can do hypnosis, coaching, and even training by phone, email, and internet. So it doesn't matter if you're here in Phoenix, AZ or in Atlanta, GA or even in Europe. The Internet essentially knows no boundaries and advertising on a website means you can reach your customers around the world instead of being limited to their general location. Advertising with some other medium (such as television, radio and print) is somewhat limited and may only reach potential customers in a relatively small geographic area. A perfect (and personal) example: my dentist is by South Mountain (in Phoenix) and I live and work in Scottsdale. I never get any of his direct mail coupons. BUT I get all his emailed ones. Would you like a salesperson that works 24 hours a day for pennies an hour? No minimum wage laws here! You guessed it, another advantage to using a website to market your business is the internet is available 24 hours a day around the world. While your competitors may be limited to their regular business hours, your website will enable you to reach your customers at any hour of the day. This is especially important for reaching potential customers in other time zones and for reach customers in your own area who are simply too busy to shop for products or services like the ones you offer during regular business hours. Many potential customers work long hours and appreciate the ability to research and shop online after hours. Heck, I just went through this process choosing a new massage therapist. It was 11pm and I'm going to the websites of the several massage therapists who had a website listed on their business card. I got to "know" them before I even picked up the phone. Made things much easier. Finally, if you use a website to market your business you can actually generate a profit from your website in other ways than through sales to customers. You can also use your website to generate income by selling advertising space to other business owners who are marketing their own products and services on the Internet. However, care should be taken when advertising on your website. First of all you should not sell advertising space to direct competitors. This is important because this may cause you to lose potential business if potential customers opt to purchase product or services from competitors who advertise on your website. An ideal advertiser is one who offers complementary products and services to your own. That is, they don't directly compete with your own products or services but would be of interest to your potential customers. You should also take care not to place too many advertisements on your website. This is important because too many advertisements can cause your own message to be lost. Hopefully, this has given you some ideas about how you can use a website to grow your business.
